프랭크 스텔라(Frank Stella, 1936-2024)는 1959년 23살 젊은 나이에 MoMA가 선정한 16명의 젊은 작가 중 한 명으로 선정되어 이름을 알리면서, 1960년 레오 카스텔리(Leo Castelli) 화랑에서 첫 개인전을 열고, 33세에 MoMA에서 최연소 회고전을 개최하였으며, 휘트니 미술관에서도 역시 대규모 회고전을 통해 그의 예술적 영향력을 떨쳤다. 스텔라는 1960년대 추상표현주의에서 미니멀아트 사조로 전환되던 시기에, 자신만의 실험적이고 혁신적인 양식을 창출하며, 미술사에서 중요한 미니멀리스트 작가로 자리매김 하였다. Bamboo Trophy II 조각은 초기 작품에 주로 등장하는 기하학적 패턴과 함께 후기 작품에 등장하는역동적인 에너지가 넘치는 구성이 함께 엿보이는 작품이다. 본 작품은 20세기 초 러시아 구성주의 회화(Russian Constructivists)와 앙리 마티스(Henri Matisse, 1869-1954)헨리 무어(Henry Moore, 1898-1986)의 브론즈 조각에 영향을 받아 제작되었다. 특히 작품이 제작되던 시기에 스텔라는 용접된 금속이나 스테인리스 스틸, 알루미늄, 종이, 보드지 등을 사용하여 자유롭게 흐르는 선과 각을 공간 속에서 실험했다고 전해진다. Bamboo Trophy II 조각은 탄소 섬유와 수지로 만든 둥근 곡선의 검은 날개가 단단한 유기물질인 대나무 격자 덩굴에 지지되어 있다. 인공과 자연, 직선과 곡선, 단단함과 유연함, 규칙과 불규칙 등 스텔라는 자신의 작품에 모순되고 상반되는 특성들을 조화시켜, 다양한 형식과 의미가 교차하는 관계를 낳는다.   Bamboo Trophy II 는 스텔라의 워크샵에서 공동작업으로 총 5점이 제작되었다. 하나는 작가가 소장했다가 해체하여 다른 작품의 재료로 사용되었고, 다른 하나는 워크샵에서 소유하고 있으며, 나머지 세 점은 유럽, 뉴욕, 그리고 BHAK에서 소장 중이다. 

Frank Stella (1936-2024) gained prominence at the young age of 23 when he was selected as one of 16 emerging artists by MoMA in 1959. He held his first solo exhibition at Leo Castelli Gallery in 1960, and at the age of 33, he was the youngest artist who honored with a retrospective at MoMA. And through his major retrospective at the Whitney Museum, he established his artistic influence. During the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Minimal Art in the 1960s, Stella established himself as a significant minimalist artist by creating his own experimental and innovative style. The sculpture Bamboo Trophy II reflects both the geometric patterns prevalent in his early works and the dynamic energy characteristic of his later pieces. This work was influenced by early 20th-century Russian Constructivist painting, Henri Matisse (1869-1954), and Henry Moore's (1898-1986) bronze sculptures. During the period when this piece was created, Stella was known for experimenting with freely flowing lines and angles using welded metal, stainless steel, aluminum, paper, and board.

Bamboo Trophy II features rounded black curves made from carbon fiber and resin supported by a sturdy organic bamboo lattice. Stella harmonizes contradictory and opposing elements such as artificial and natural, straight and curved, rigidity and flexibility, order and disorder in his work, creating a dialogue of diverse forms and meanings. A total of five pieces of Bamboo Trophy II were produced in collaboration at Stella's workshop. One was dismantled by the artist and used as material for another work, one is owned by the workshop, and the remaining three are held in Europe, New York, and BHAK.
