살루스티아노는 성을 뺀 이름을 작가명으로 쓴다. 불필요한 설명없이, 순수하고 직관적인 컨셉을 유지하기 위해서이다.
“’주제’에 관심을 가진 적은 없고, 내 작업에 서사적인 담론 같은 것은 없다. 내 그림들은 ‘뭔가’를 말하려고 하는 의도를 가진 게 아니라, 감상자에게 서로 다른 느낌을 불러일으키려는 의도를 가진 것이다. 사실 느낌이라는 것은 너무 분명하고 수명이 짧은 것이기 때문에 그런 의도조차도 있다고 하기 힘들다. 나는 그냥 좀 더 원초적이고, 더 깊고, 더 섬세하고 오래가는 것을 찾고 있다. 나는 감상자들의 영혼 속에 어떤 상태를 만들어내는 것을 의도한다. 그것은 아주 지능적인 작업이고 계산된 것이지만, 감정적인 목표를 추구하는 것이다. 이런 의미에서 나의 작업은 추상화나 추상적인 음악과도 같다." |
Salustiano
uses only his first name as an artistic name, no surname. It is as if he gets rid of the
accessories and keeps a pure, more immediate concept, at the same time more
durable and suggestive.
Just like in a painting: “I have never been interested in the “subject”, there isn’t anything like a
narrative discourse behind my work. My paintings are images that do not
intend to tell ‘something’, but they intend to provoke different sensations
in the viewer. Or not even that,
because a sensation can be too obvious and ephemeral. I am looking for
something more primitive, deeper inside, more delicate and long-lasting.
I intend to cause certain state in the viewer’s soul. It is an intellectual
work, very assessed, but always pursuing an emotional goal. In this sense, my
painting works like abstract painting or abstract music”. |
