지심세연(b.1984)은 과거부터 현재와 미래까지 관통하는 시간 속에 존재하는 찰나의 순간을 주제로 작업한다. 이러한 찰나의 순간은 순식간에 일어났다가 사라지는 시간으로, 활동 초기에는 폭발하는 불꽃을 그린 장면으로 찰나의 순간이 표현되었으며, 최근에는 바닷가의 파도 형상으로 표현된다. 사방으로 폭발하는 불꽃과 이리저리 부서지는 파도의 모습은 순식간에 일어났다가 사라지는 찰나의 시간성을 나타낸다. 한편 순간적인 시간과 대조적으로, 파도가 일어나는 바다의 물길과 물결에 마모된 바위 형상은 과거부터 미래까지 끊임없이 흐르는 시간을 보여주며 같은 시간 속에서 다르게 흐르는 시간성을 보여준다. 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 교차하는 각기 다른 시간의 모양이 표현된 지심세연의 작품은 과거의 시간을 붙잡는 차원이 아니라 과거를 회상하고 미래를 내다보지만, 결국을 다 알 수 없는 우리 각자에게 주어진 찰나를 마주하게끔 한다.

‘G-sim’ Seyeon’s work explores fleeting moments that span past, present, and future. In her early works, she depicted these moments through explosive flames, while more recently, her works portray the shape of ocean waves, representing the transient nature of time. The exploding flames and crashing waves represent moments that happen and vanish instantly, while the flowing waters of the sea and worn rocks symbolize the continuous flow of time. Ji's works show the intersecting flows of different times, bridging the past, present, and future.
