윤우승 (b.1962)의 회화는 바닷속 풍경을 모티브로 삼고 있다. 그의 작품은 단순한 물속 이야기가 아니라 삶의 이야기이기도 하다. 윤우승은 <라이피쉬> 시리즈를 통해 본인이 살아오며 겪었던 고난을 물고기에 투영하여 Life 와Fish 를 합성한 단어 ‘Lifish’ 를 사용한다. 13년동안 생계를 유지하기 위해 제주 은갈치 식당을 운영한 그에게는  매일 갈치를 손질하는 것은 생계와 직결된 필수적인 일이었다. 윤우승은 그러한 경험에서 파생된 은빛과 알루미늄에 주물기법과 옻칠기법을 더한다. 또한 단색의 물고기 형상은 바다의 깊이감과 심해의 적막을 보여주며 관객을 바닷속의 살아있는 현장으로 이끈다.

Yun Woo Seung (b.1962) draws inspiration for his paintings from underwater landscapes. However, his work goes beyond depicting life beneath the surface—it is also a narrative of life itself. Through his Lifish series, Yoon projects the hardships he has endured onto the image of fish, coining the term “Lifish” by blending Life and Fish. For 13 years, he operated a silver hairtail (galchi) restaurant in Jeju to sustain his livelihood. The daily task of handling fish was not a choice, but a necessity tied directly to survival. Drawing from that experience, he incorporates silvery tones and aluminum textures into his works using casting and traditional lacquer (ottchil) techniques. The monochromatic fish forms evoke the depth and stillness of the sea, guiding viewers into the vivid reality of life under the ocean’s surface.
